Hidden in the South West corner of Spain and right in the heart of the Costa de la Luz you will find Islantilla Golf Resort.
Born from the minds of course designers Enrique Canales and Luis Recasens, Islantilla is perfectly sculpted between pine forests, in a rolling parkland setting in the gulf of Cadiz. The course takes the form of a 3 x 9 hole layout, providing 27 holes of varied difficulty and can be played in different formats depending on the level of difficulty desired.
The 3 x 9 hole courses are designated as Green, Yellow and Blue and can be played in various formats. Blue courses is 1-9, Yellow course is 10-18 and Green course is 19-27.
The slope rating for the various course combinations varies from 122-125 for Men and 119-126 for Women. The courses range in distance from 6165 metres from the tips to 4758 metres off the reds.
Signature hole at Islantilla Golf
One of the most ‘favourited’ holes seems to be the second to last of the Yellow course. This medium sized par 4 requires a precise tee shot to between 220 and 250 yards landing plum amidst the 3 fairway bunkers.
Anything landing left will find the one long bunker tight against the fairway and anything pushed long and right will certainly find sand in one of the 2 smaller bunkers located here.
With a perfect tee shot you are now faced with a decision of taking on the lake or laying up an extra 50-60 yards to give a less nerve jangling approach. To take on the lake requires confidence and a strong second of around 90+ yards, finding the slightly elevated green with enough power to hope it sticks and doesn’t fall off back into the drink.
This hole is everything we love and hate in golf rolled into one! Walking off with a par or better feels like a job well done.
To play Islantilla Golf Resort is to indulge in whatever style of golf you prefer, with options for everyone and a vast range of parkland course design, challenges and facilities. The Hotel is top quality and the resort is perfectly situated in the middle of the Costa de la Luz, with access to sandy beaches and excellent restaurants and cafes.
