Dating back to 1945, Golf Llavaneras is the 4th oldest of the Barcelona golf courses. The original president of the course, Augusto Batlló Bofill, designed the first few holes upon its initial opening. Over the decades, respected architects have added their touches, and today it stands as an 18-hole masterpiece.
Out of all the options for golf breaks in Barcelona, this course is the best example of several different golf designs packed into one course. The course measures only 5,000 metres in total, which is relatively compact. However, decades’ worth of expert design work has made the most of the limited space.
The course starts with a short par 4 that demands accuracy – perhaps it would be best to save the driver for later shots. This is followed by five par 3s, which differ in both length, ascendancy/descendancy, and difficulty. Don’t get used to par 3s, though, as there are 10 par 4s throughout the course.
The 17th is probably the most scenic, which provides you with lofty views of the surrounding nature and Mediterranian sea. While there’s no widely regarded “signature shot”, the 17th is definitely the most picturesque.
The course has a mix of Cynodon Dactylon and Agrostis Stolonifera grass, which provides a perfect golfing surface – one that is well maintained by the club, too.
In terms of hazards, pine trees can be found clustered next to the greens, in addition to some deep and unforgiving bunkers. Water hazards are also present and cause particular trouble on the 11th hole.
