Alamos is further inland than many of the other golf courses in the Algarve, and as a result, has a completely unique look and feel to it. Set at the foot of the Monchique mountains; you’ll feel at one with the rural setting as you meander through lush green vegetation. The lakes, mountains and vineyards provide the perfect backdrop to a tranquil round of golf.
The course isn’t particularly long, measuring 6244 yards from the championship tees. The yellows are 5582 yards, while the red tees measure 4755 yards. Par is 71 here, with four par-5s, nine par-4s, and five par-3s.
Due to its layout, there can be a bit of a walk between holes, so we advise booking a buggy to make the most of your round here. Buggy hire costs about €45 for 18 holes.
Of the two courses at Morgado Golf & Country Club, Alamos has tighter fairways and is shorter overall. The greens can be devilish at times but are always in good condition. There are some tricky undulations to navigate, so you’ll want accurate iron play with your approach shots to save yourself having to line up those tricky 20-foot putt.
Alamos Signature Hole
The signature hole is undoubtedly the 2nd, a 532-yard par-5 dogleg right. There is water down the right-hand side, and a tricky bunker waits for anyone that flirts with the lake.
The 9th hole also deserves a mention. On the surface, it seems like a straightforward 180-yard par-3 with a bunker protecting the front of a small green. Putting is where you can expect your skills to be tested. The green has a slope that can be difficult to read, so an accurate tee shot is crucial.
Overall, this course is perfect option for golfers with mid-high handicaps looking for a more tranquil round away from the hustle and bustle of some other Algarve golf courses. The trees and plants are now well-established and provide the perfect backdrop for a wonderful round of golf.
