If you’re a keen golfer and holidaying in Alicante or Benidorm, visiting Alicante Golf is a must. While there are a number of golf courses in Costa Blanca, Alicante Golf is one of the best thanks to the hole variations and interesting hazards.Â
It was designed by the legendary late Spanish golfer Seve Ballesteros and opened in 1998. Ballesteros aimed to create a golf course that was totally unique to the region. With six par 5, six par 4, and six par 3 holes, he certainly did a good job of making it special. In fact, the 18-hole course remains the only of its kind to have such a configuration on the Iberian Peninsula.Â
Unlike the courses found at other Costa Blanca golf resorts, the green is relatively flat. Thanks to this flatness, all the holes remain visible throughout. However, a buggy is still recommended, as the distance between holes can be quite significant.Â
The real challenge of this par 72 course is its hazards. You’ve really got to think about your shot choices when it comes to the five sizeable lakes that interrupt 12 of the holes including signature hole 18, plus, you have to clear some Roman ruins on hole 14! Not many courses can claim to have such unique hazards.Â
The quality of the wide fairways remains consistently excellent throughout the year. Plus, the course is home to thousands of trees which provide excellent shade and create a stark contrast to the residential area that surrounds it.Â
When it comes to Costa Blanca golf holidays, you’re spoiled for choice. However, it’s worth trying Alicante Golf for its balance and tricky layout.
Alicante Golf is located just 15 minutes from the City of Alicante with a wealth of bars, restaurants and hotel options. The international Airport is just 20 minutes from the golf course providing a very convenient travel time. The coastal resorts are just 10-15 minutes away with some stunning sandy beaches available for a relaxing getaway. The neighbouring courses of Bonalba & El Plantio are just 20 minutes away providing some variety in golf options nearby.
