The Canyamel Golf Course showcases the best aspects of golf holidays in the Balearics: spectacular views of the Mediterranean, perfectly designed fairways and challenging holes.
This course is the work of José Gancedo, who’s regularly referred to as “the Picasso of golf” and from the first shot at Canyamel, it’s easy to see why. This course is set on uneven orography, which gives the course an unpredictable nature. The undulations make several blind holes, so you really have to rely on both skill and either course knowledge or guesswork to succeed on this course.
The first hole is all downhill and measures 325 metres, it’s a good driver opportunity although you need to be wary of the rough on the right-hand side. It’s par 4s all the way until you reach hole 4, which is a steep uphill par 5. This one is made more complicated by the fact you can’t see the green from the fairway.
Like most Balearic golf courses, Canyamel is tree lined with mainly olive, fig and palm creating a classically mediterranean feel. The signature hole is undoubtedly the 9th which is a par 4 featuring a small stone building right in the middle of the fairway. Hole 14 is probably the most scenic though, featuring a small, tree lined hill stretching into the background vista.
Overall, the fairways are wide, the grass is well maintained, and the course is very fun and playable. This is considered one of the best golf resorts in the Balearics not only for its golf but also for its alfresco dining options available for after your game.
Canyamel Golf is located on the North Eastern coast of Mallorca just 1 hours drive from the capital of Palma de Mallorca. There are several beach resorts and towns within 5-10 minutes of the course offering a selection of bars, restaurants and varying hotel and accommodation options. The neighbouring courses of Son Servera and Pula Resort are just 10 minutes away for anyone wanting to enjoy a different course locally.
