The Club de Campo de Mediterraneo is not only one of the best golf courses in Valencia, it is also one of the oldest. Opened in 1978, this Ramon Espinosa designed course was originally made for the Castelló Masters, a former European tour golf tournament. More recently, the club has been used for PGA qualifying tournaments, which is a real testament to its quality today.Â
This course can be found slightly inland, in a valley populated by carob, poplar, and olive trees. This vegetation creates some natural hazards – as do the four lakes. Players are required to strategically hit over a lake on hole 16, after doing their best to avoid the water on several prior holes (7 of the 18 holes feature a water hazard).Â
Campo de Mediterraneo can be described as well well-balanced course, suitable for all players. 16 is its signature hole, which requires you to narrowly miss some stray palm trees. The green on this hole is also positioned directly in front of a lake, so accuracy is a big requirement.Â
Despite its long existence, this course remains well-maintained and a must-visit for Valencia golf holidays. Mountains surround the club, which gives it a nice secluded feel. There are plenty of golf resorts in Valencia, but this one is definitely worth visiting for its history, green quality, and extensive practice grounds.
Club de Golf de Mediterraneo is 1 hour North of Valencia and the international Airport, just North of the town of Villareal and the urban area of Castellon de la Plana. The course is 15 minutes from the coast and the beaches of Gurungu offering some varied bar and restaurant options. The closest neighbouring course is Escorpion which can be reached in 1 hour.
