Club de Golf Escorpion is another one of the oldest Valencia golf courses. The club dates back to 1969, although the current location was first opened in 1975.
If you’re staying in one of the nearby Valencia golf resorts, you should visit the Escorpion for its variety alone. There’s a total of 27 holes comprising three 9-hole circuits, so it feels like a totally different course each time you play!
The first 18 holes were designed by famed course architect Ron Kirby. 26 years after its opening, it was redesigned, and Alfonso Vidaor added 9 new holes. Today there are three different 9-hole courses you can play on: Masía (par 36), Lagos (par 35), and Nuevos (par 37).
Despite the undulating hills which surround it, the first two courses are mostly flat, however, three lakes stretch out past several holes. Plus, clusters of orange and palm trees serve as natural barriers to the holes, which makes certain shots tricky.
Masía can be characterised by its dog legs, which make numerous holes tricky. Holes 2, 7, and 9 of the Lagos course require you to pitch the ball across different parts of the lakes. Nuevos, on the other hand, features several large bunkers and challenging raised greens.
The course in general requires skill and precision, but golfers of all handicaps will find it enjoyable. Although the fairways are wide, this course is easily walkable, and despite the 27 holes, there is no one signature hole. Any hole that features a view of the Masía de Torre farmhouse (now the clubhouse) is very charming and picturesque.
You’re spoiled for choice when it comes to golf breaks in Valencia, but the Escorpion is a fun course that you should definitely pay a visit to.
