For anyone visiting the Costa de la Luz and looking for an invigorating golf resort experience, look no further than the El Rompido Golf Beach Resort.
El Rompido North Course was opened in 2006 and is now featured in the Peugeot ‘Europes top 1000 courses’. Located in the middle of the Piedras river and protected natural park marshlands it is rapidly becoming one of the most loved in the Costa de la Luz. Designed by Alvaro Arana, the North course is more elevated than the South and provides both wider and longer fairways. The North course interacts perfectly with the wild natural environment.
El Rompido North features medium to smaller sized greens which provide ample challenge for low handicappers and mid range handicappers alike. The course layout requires skilled and intelligent play to navigate the many bunkers and tricky placement of trees.
A Par 72 course divided into holes of 4 par 3’s, 10 par 4’s and 4 par 5’s. The North Course at El Rompido has the following distances and slope ratings:
Black – 6111m – Slope 133
White – 5947m – Slope 132
Yellow – 5591m – Slope 129
Blue – 5153m – Slope 119 M / 137 F
Red – 4765m – Slope 116 M / 129 F
Signature hole at El Rompido North Course
The star of the show has to be the ridiculously testing par 3 16th. At 136 Yds off the Whites it doesn’t appear to be such a challenge in terms of distance, however the green is incredibly domed meaning landing with precision is vital.
On either side of the green left and right are 2 very deep ‘coffin’ bunkers. In tandem with the domed green this means it’s very easy to find one of these deep cavernous sand pits and easily destroy a good scorecard.
The elevated tee position also gives a great view over the nature reserve and perfectly frames this card killer.
In summary the El Rompido North Course offers a varied and super challenging 18 hole experience. It’s recommended to take a buggy as the distance can be a little excessive whilst walking, but rest assured the journey between the trees and ponds will create an epic day of golf in an elevated position overlooking the nature reserve and stunning marshlands.
