For anyone visiting the Costa de la Luz and looking for an invigorating golf resort experience, look no further than the El Rompido Golf Beach Resort.
El Rompido South Course was designed by Alvaro Arana and opened in October 2003. Famously featuring a minimalist clubhouse designed by architect Juan Antonio Foraster and the interior designer Ana Calderón, it is situated in the middle of a nature reserve close to Huelva and considered amongst the finest courses in the Costa de la Luz.
Located on the meandering Piedras river and amongst the natural park marshlands this area is perfect for showcasing a delightful blend between golf and nature. Although topographically relatively flat, the layout provides a challenging round for both low and mid level handicappers. The Proximity to the ocean and Piedras river can mean occasional breezes offer another test when lining up off the tee. Fairways are a blend of tropical grasses winding between pine and olive trees and occasional water features. The greens of the South course are relatively large and therefore a little more forgivable to reach, however they are amongst the fastest in Andalusia.
The South Course features a par 72 course consisting of 4 par 3’s, 10 par 4’s and 4 par 5’s.

Signature Hole at El Rompido South
The 1st Hole offers one of the most challenging and nervy starts, a sharp dog leg right flanked almost entirely on the inside of the leg by a lake and the left side by a thick selection of trees. A very accurate drive is required to not spoil the round before it’s even started.
A precise 240 yard drive is needed to defeat the water and have a clear second into the green. Anything less than this means to hit the green in 2 requires carrying the water with the second shot. Just 160-180 yards left to find the well protected green, flanked both left and right by hearty bunkers.
To walk off the first with Par is a true achievement and will certainly steady the nerves before heading onwards to continue the round, just 17 holes left!
El Rompido South Course in summary provides all levels of golfer a sturdy challenge in a stunning natural environment. It is suitable for walkers due to the relatively flat topography, and the resort provides a delightful blend of modern facilities, friendly staff and excellent food and drinks surrounded by calming ocean breezes.
