A true links golf course located in the South of Spain. Located alongside the Guadiana river and with spectacular views of Portugal and the river’s estuary. Enjoy 18 holes of true links golf within a tranquil and diverse nature reserve environment.
Designed by Jose Canales and opened in 2007 as part of the Isla Canela development the course offers stunning views throughout. Isla Canela Links is typically characterised by its wide and open fairways due to its American-style course architecture. Despite the spacious fairways, golfers must not be tricked into a false sense of security. Strong prevailing winds from the Guadiana River frequently interfere with golfers’ scorecards.
Undeniably a challenging golf course, measuring a lengthy 6,540 metres from the tips. Despite its length, at no point does Isla Canela Links become repetitive and provides an ample challenge for even the best amateur golfer.
A Par 72 course divided into 4 par 5’s, 10 par 4’s and 4 par 3’s.
The course distances and slope ratings are as follows:
Black 6540m – 127
White 6230 – 126
Yellow 5832 – 125 M / 130 F
Blue 5529 – 116 M / 127 F
Red 5337 – 113 M / 125 F
Isla Canela Links Signature hole
It must be the 15th, teeing off alongside the mighty Guadiana River which frames the tee shot beautifully and stretches North towards Portugal.
A very precise and powerful shot is required to take on this par 5 which will usually be affected by the powerful winds coming across the fairway left to right which adds another challenge to this stunning tee box vista.
Depending on the drive a second shot could potentially reach, but most decide to lay up and play it safe from the 3 bunkers protecting the left and right side. This hole truly makes you feel like you’re on the edge of a precipice dividing Spain and Portugal.
In summary this is a fantastic course that flanks the nature reserve and offers an incredible challenge within a traditional links-style golf environment. Golfers really enjoyed the friendly staff and the well stocked clubhouse.
