Golfbreaks use the Hotel Boutique Isla Canela Golf which is located directly alongside the Old Course to provide the closest possible lodging. This hotel is also just 15 minutes from the Links Course.
Considered one of the finest courses in Spain and part of the Isla Canela Resort, also containing the Links, the Old Course showcases a challenging and varied 18 hole experience.
Lush vegetation and natural sea fed saltwater lakes define the course but a special mention goes to the well placed trees dotted expertly around each hole creating a vastly greater challenge. The varying species of Orange, Palm, Eucalyptus and Olive give off sweet aromas but must not be underestimated with there strategic placements designed to test even the most proficient golfer.
Created in 1993 this well matured Par 72 course is divided into 4 par 3’s, 10 par 4’s and 4 par 5’s. Isla Canela Old Course features the following distances and slope ratings:
Black 6240m – Slope 142.
White 5983m – Slope 140.
Yellow 5691m – Slope 132 M / 138 F.
Blue 5227m – Slope 127 M / 132 F.
Red 4972m – Slope 122 M / 129 F.
Signature hole at Isla Canela Old Course
The most striking and beautiful hole is the par 4 10th. Teeing off over one of the many saltwater channels with precision so as not to hit OB to the right hand side into the Estero de Puerto de Plata. A safe drive of over 200 Yards is needed to enable a look at a second into the green.
A distance of around 130-150 yds will carry perfectly onto the green, but be wary as a long second will find the sand, pushing to the right will find sand and a wayward shot left will find one of the many saltwater ponds flanking the course.
This hole gives a taste of everything, both danger, risk reward and a fantastic sweeping view out over the Estero de Canela river leading out into the Atlantic sea.

Just over 45 minutes from Faro Airport and 1 hour 30 from Seville it’s perfectly located for anyone looking for a fantastic golf experience with year round good weather and the port town of Ayamonte just minutes away offering excellent bars and restaurants.

Hotel Boutique Isla Canela Golf Is located directly on the grounds of the Old Course just 15 minutes from the Links Course and a few minutes from the town of Ayamonte. Both the Meliá Atlántico Isla Canela and DoubleTree by Hilton Islantilla Beach Golf Resort are just a 25 minute drive down the coast along one of the many sandy beaches of the Huelva region. For just an extra 10 minutes travel time, 35 minutes or so will reach the Precise Resort El Rompido.
