Nestled amidst pine woodlands, the La Manga West Course boasts a design that closely contours the natural topography of the undulating land. Designed in 1986 by the famous golf architect Dave Thomas, it was completed in just 9 months. The layout and topography definitely makes it a challenging alternative to more classical championship courses. Â
The West Course at La Manga is dotted with frequent changes in elevation, this offers a varied set of challenges for all levels of golfers. The front 9 demand accurate driving to avoid the ‘barrancos’, whilst the back 9 offers stunning views spread up amongst the hills, with narrow fairways, frequent blind shots and is definitely more open but still very challenging.
The undulating fairways, fast greens, and breathtaking views make this course particularly exciting to play. With every aspect of a golfers ability tested to the full. The Par 3’s on this course are a collection of probably the best short holes found anywhere on one golf course, requiring accuracy and good course management instead of power and length to succeed.
The resort has a nice driving range, good putting and short game practice areas. The shop is well stocked, and a very reliable man on a buggy is always around selling drinks and snacks to golfers.
