The New Course at San Roque was designed and created by Perry Dye in collaboration with the late great Seve Ballesteros. Opened in 2005 as part of the San Roque golf estate the course has hosted the Spanish open in both 2005 and 2006. Often seen as equal to the Old Course which it certainly is in terms of infrastructure, conditioning and course quality. Some folk even rate the New Course more highly than the prestigious bigger sister.
Stunning holes that reveal themselves little by little, and a topographically diverse layout showcasing vast panoramas across the Sotogrande region. San Roque is as memorable as it gets.
Tight fairways, fast tricky greens and strategically positioned ‘risk versus reward’ water features, forces the golfer into making consistently important decisions to build a good score.
The New Course may offer a more reasonable green fee, however it far from diminishes the quality and challenge provided when set alongside the Old Course.
San Roque New Course is a par 72 course divided into the following hole arrangement, 4 par 3’s, 10 par 4’s and 4 par 5’s. The yardages and slope ratings are as follows:
White – 6497 Metres – Slope 137 M
Yellow – 6079 Metres – Slope 132 M
Blue – 5565 Metres – Slope – 134 F
Red – 5010 Metres – Slope – 132 F
Gold – 4593 Metres – Slope – 127 F
To summarise, the San Roque New Course offers everything expected from such a professionally managed and designed golf estate. It’s hard to distinguish between the two courses in terms of which one is better, this truly is a testament to just how good the younger incarnation really is.
