Between Palma and the Son Vida hills you’ll find Son Muntaner, one of the best designed golf courses in the Balearics. It is reasonably difficult, although it is still a fair challenge for higher handicappers. It was designed by Kurt Rossknecht and opened in 2000. Since then, the course has regularly been used for major golf tournaments, including the Mallorca Ladies Golf Open 2023 and the Mallorca Golf Open 2022.
Son Muntaner is actually part of the Arabella Golf resort, which is considered one of the best golf resorts in the Balearics. Several other golf courses can be found onsite, including the Son Vida.
Son Muntaner is a par 72 and 6,226 metres in length. Over its 18 holes you’ll encounter a wide variety of challenges and hazards. The first hole starts things off on a tricky note, with a complicated dog leg and water hazard next to the putting green. The second hole, which is a par 5, has water pretty much all the way down the right hand side. The entire course is very playable, and the grass remains healthy all year round. This is thanks to it being Bermuda Celebration grass, which can thrive in hot, arid climates.
On an interesting side note, the course’s oldest olive tree can be found next to the 15th hole and is 1,000 years old! Thankfully this tree is not considered a hazard and shouldn’t come into play. Thanks to this beautiful tree, the 15th is generally classed as the course’s signature hole.
Overall, this course can make a golf holiday in the Balearics extra special and should be high on the list when choosing your perfect golf getaway.
