While many of the best golf resorts in the Balearics date back just decades, Son Vida is officially the oldest golf course in Mallorca. It first opened in 1964 and remains today the only pitch and putt facility open to the public on the island. The course was renovated in 2001 by Kurt Rossknecht, who increased the difficulty of the course.
Despite the changes it has incurred over the years, the Son Vida remains a traditional golf course. The par 72 measures 5,597 metres and features sweeping dog legs and speedy greens, demanding a high degree of technical ability.
The first hole sums up what the course is all about: a tricky but short par 4 with a dog leg to the right. Wayward shots are destined to go out of bounds. Hole 3 is also particularly difficult, with a steep and tight climb up towards the green. The signature hole is either the 14th or the 18th – both are as scenic as they are challenging.
Palm and almond trees planted throughout the course increase the difficulty of things. Throughout the course, you’ll get to admire the beautiful big houses of the Son Vida housing estate and sweeping vistas around the Son Vida.
Given the course’s nearby proximity to the city, the Son Vida has become a central part of many amazing golf holidays in the Balearics. The course also forms part of the Arabella Golf Complex, which features many of the top 10 golf courses in the Balearics.
Son Vida Golf is located on the Western side of the Island of Mallorca and just 20 minutes from the airport and the capital city Palma. The beach resorts of Cala Major and the famous Marbella are reachable in 10-20 minutes and there are a selection of beaches, bars, restaurants and a wide range of accommodation options to suit all tastes and budgets. Son Muntaner is part of the Arabella golf resort and has neighbouring courses of Son Quint and Son Muntaner, making this area perfect for multiple rounds in a calm and relaxing setting.
