The Montgomerie Maxx Royal was designed by the Scottish golfing legend Colin Montgomerie and opened in 2008. Although Belek is home to many premium golf courses, the Montgomerie Maxx has been chosen several times for the Turkish Airlines Open, including the competition’s inaugural event. Everyone from Tiger Woods to Rory McIlroy has played on this course.
One of the top 10 golf courses in Turkey, the Montgomerie Maxx features 18 holes and measures 6,521 metres. On this site, you can also find a 9-hole smaller course that is floodlit for night golf.
Like many of the best golf resorts in Turkey, the main course consists of pine forests and sandy ridges. This course also stands out due to the 30 metre high viewing tower built into the clubhouse, from which you can spectate fellow golfers.
The fun begins around hole number 4, which features a large lake. If you’re lucky, you may be able to reach the green in two shots on this par 5. The signature hole is also a par 5, hole number 13. As is to be expected on championship courses, many of the putting greens are blocked by large pine trees, and hole 13 is an example of that.
On the whole, this is one of the most difficult courses in the entire Belek region. So, if you’ve got a high handicap, you may want to consider other courses.
