Many players visit for the golf but stay for the views, given that they are some of the best of any golf course in the region.
Palmares is so beautiful that you’ll be treated to breathtaking views of the Bay of Lagos and the Alvor Estuary to the south, and the mountains of the Monchique to the north. Add in the beautiful dunes and a smattering of almond and acaia trees and you have the perfect backdrop for a great day’s golf.
The course is laid out into three loops of 9 holes, Alvor, Lagos and Praia, which provides the Getaway Golfer with a range of options when booking tee times. This is where you can combine your love of links golf and parkland golf.
Alvor
Alvor is the hilliest part of the Palmares Golf Course and is mainly parkland in style. That said, the 6th and 7th holes play down to the beach and through the dunes, giving golfers a taste of what to expect if they decide to take on the Praia loop.
Lagos
The Lagos loop contains the only lakes on the entire golf course and is the only section where genuine water hazards come into play at the 3rd and 6th hole. Most of the Lagos loop is parkland, but the 7th and 8th are links-style holes, playing through the dunes once again.
Praia
Praia is the most authentic links section of the 27 holes. Four of the nine holes run directly along the beach, providing majestic views of the Atlantic Ocean and Meia Praia beach.
Palmares Signature Hole
The Palmares’ signature hole is the 9th par-5 on the Lagos loop. From your elevated tee shot, you’ll be afforded the most wonderful views of the entire course and surrounding area. Golfers can opt to cut the corner for the ultimate risk-reward opportunity, and is very getable for longer hitters.
Palmares Clubhouse
The Palmares clubhouse is worthy of mention. The Pritzker Architecture Award-winning RCR Architects designed it and boasts a breathtaking panoramic view of the Alvor Estuary, Meia Praia Beach, and Ponta da Piedade. It also houses the Al Sud Restaurant, led by renowned chef Louis Anjos.
