To score low at Silves, you’ll need to be accurate as the course is tight. Bunkers and water hazards await any wayward shots, and this is no more true than on the 1st tee, where both of the aforementioned hazards will greet you should you misplace your tee shot.
Silves isn’t the longest course at 5748 yards (5256m) off the yellow tees, but don’t let the lack of distance deceive you, there are plenty of intricate holes where intelligent play is key to scramble a par.
Silves golf course is predominantly a parkland course, with plenty of trees in the most irritating of places. Plot your way around, don’t get too greedy and you’ll have every chance of shooting a decent score.
Men must have a handicap of 28 and ladies must have a handicap of 36 to play at Silves.
Par is 70 and there are six par-3 holes and four par-5’s representing a fair chance for the big hitters to grab a couple of well-earned birdies.
Owing to the climate, the greens at Silves should be respected at all times, they roll fast and true. An exuberant putt can leave any player struggling to make a 3 putt, you’ve been warned!
Many players visit Silves for the golf but stay for the views, with many of the holes offering a spectacular backdrop for knocking a little white ball around. You’ll be surrounded by beautiful mountains, orchards, and traditional Portuguese farmland.
When you’re done with your round, you can sit down with a cold drink at the clubhouse bar, which was recently remodelled. There’s an excellent terrace overlooking the course where you can cool off while the rest of your party sweats their way down the final hole.
