Quinta do Vale Golf Course Review

Located in the southeastern corner of Portugal, less than ten kilometres from Ayamonte, the Spanish town, lies Quinta do Vale Golf Course.

Overlooking the River Guadiana, this hidden masterpiece designed by the legendary Seve Ballesteros has been crafted to challenge and inspire golfers of every level.

Spread over an impressive 75 hectares, the course takes full advantage of the natural terrain, blending seamlessly with the surrounding landscape to create a truly unique golfing experience.

With Seve’s creative signature woven into every hole, Quinta do Vale promises to please every golfer, regardless of their handicap.

And with excellent value for money, including 2 players and a buggy for just €165 in peak season, this golf course is not to be missed.

Course Design

Seve Ballesteros’ reputation as one of the greatest golfers of all time is well-known. However, what many may not know is that his genius extended beyond his playing career to his course design.

The 18-hole Quinta do Vale Golf Course is a testament to his unparalleled talent and vision. The course has been specially designed to challenge even the most seasoned golfers, with many doglegs and strategic hazards strategically placed throughout. Wide fairways offer a sense of openness but don’t be fooled; the bunkers and obstacles require accuracy and strategic thinking.

Seve’s creativity is evident in every detail, and as you play each hole, you’ll feel his genius come to life. Come and experience the brilliance of Seve Ballesteros at Quinta do Vale Golf Course.

Course Information

Quinta do Vale Golf Course is a par 72 course designed to challenge golfers of every level. There are four tee options available.

Quinta do Vale Distances
  • The white tees measure 6787 yards (6205 metres)
  • The yellow tees measure 6295 yards (5759 metres)
  • The blue tees measure 5870 yards (5362 metres)
  • The red tees measure 5250 yards (4800 metres)

To play the course, both men and women require a handicap of 36.

Quinta do Vale Slope Rating

For those interested in course slope ratings, from the white tees the slope rating is 134, from the yellow tees it’s 130, the blue tees 135, and the red tees 128.

Course Layout

With its unique configuration of six par threes, six par fours, and six par fives, the course guarantees a diverse and engaging playing experience.

What’s more, the course never repeats the same par at consecutive holes, adding an extra layer of excitement to your round.

The front nine is a true test of skill, with more than half the holes featuring strategically placed water hazards.

The par five 7th hole, measuring 568 yards (520 metres), is a stroke index 1 and requires a precise tee shot to navigate the dogleg right to a green that juts out into one of the lakes.

The back nine offers a more forgiving layout, with the architect’s trademark S-shaped bunker adding a touch of Seve’s creativity to the par five 10th, measuring 615 yards (562 metres).

The Greens at Quinta do Vale

The greens at Quinta do Vale Golf Course are a testament to the maintenance team’s dedication and hard work.

While they may not have the same level of prestige as some of the other top courses in the Algarve, the greens here are nothing short of excellent.

The quality of the putting surface is particularly impressive given the affordable green fees, which are lower than many other courses in the region.

The greens are fast, firm, and true, providing a fair and enjoyable challenge for golfers of all abilities.

Quinta do Vale Signature Hole

The Quinta do Vale Golf Course has a signature hole that is guaranteed to leave a lasting impression on every player who steps up to the tee.

That hole is the 18th hole, a thrilling short par four that measures 320 metres (350 yards). This hole demands a strategic approach, requiring players to hit their tee shot accurately over the water to reach the home green.

The stunning views of the river Guadiana and the surrounding countryside add to the excitement of this final hole, making it an unforgettable experience for golfers of all levels.

To Conclude

Quinta do Vale is a true hidden gem, tucked away on the border with Spain. It’s worth the drive to get there, especially considering the value for money it offers compared to other courses in the Algarve.

The Seve Ballesteros design incorporates challenging holes to test golfers of every level, with wide fairways, strategic hazards and bunkers, and a mix of par threes, fours and fives. And who can forget the signature hole, the short par four 18th with its intimidating approach over water to the home green?

The course is in excellent condition and the greens are a joy to play on. With a range of tees to suit different handicaps and stunning views over the River Guadiana, Quinta do Vale is a must-play course for any golfer visiting the Algarve.
