Top Tips When Booking an All Inclusive Golf Holiday in the Algarve
Booking an all inclusive holiday golf holiday in the Algarve has many benefits. That peace of mind knowing that all your food and drinks are paid throughout your trip can be hugely beneficial when it comes to budgeting.
If you plan to golf all day, having all your meals and drinks in the hotel can also be incredibly convenient instead of roaming around trying to find somewhere to eat and drink.
Here are some of our top tips when booking your all inclusive Algarve golf break.
Check What’s Included - All-Inclusive Doesn’t Always Mean ALL-INCLUSIVE
Whilst many tour operators advertise holidays as all inclusive, things aren’t always as black and white as you might think.
All Inclusive Drinks
Drinks may exclude premium spirits and various speciality wines. If you’re hoping to sip on champagne throughout your trip, you may be disappointed.
Generally, all inclusive packages include table wine, local beers and soft drinks. Some may include cocktails as well, so it pays to check.
Check What Restaurants Are Included
In most instances, all inclusive hotels provide food in a buffet-style restaurant. There’s usually a wide selection of dishes to choose from, but the standard can vary depending on the resort.
Before you travel, check trip advisor ratings paying particular attention to what guests have to say about the food. The last thing you want is to come down with a bout of food poisoning on day 2 of your golf holiday because you’ve eaten a dodgy prawn.
Some hotels also run À La Carte restaurants when you want something a little more special. Beware that there may be restrictions on how frequently you are allowed to dine there.
In some cases, you might be allowed to dine once during your stay, at other times it may incur an additional surcharge every time you eat there.
Beware Of Food Intolerances With All-Inclusive Buffets
Buffets at all-inclusive hotels can be tricky for those with food allergies and intolerances. Cross-contamination can be a real issue.
If you’re travelling in a group, make sure that you check with all golfers about dietary requirements before booking.
If they do have allergies or intolerances, make sure to check with the hotel directly to make sure that they can cater for them.
Many hotels have improved their ability to cater for varying dietary requirements in recent years, but there’s little point in forking out for all inclusive dining only to find out that you’ll need to eat elsewhere.
Check How Many Rounds of Golf Are Included
If you’re booking your all-inclusive Algarve holiday with a specialist golf travel agent, check how many rounds of golf it includes during your holiday. Whilst all inclusive will apply to food and drinks, it won’t usually apply to golf.
Package golf operators will typically schedule one round of golf per day, and that’s usually enough, given you can expect a round of golf to take up to 5 hours during busy periods.
For those hardcore golf enthusiasts, hell bent on playing two rounds every day check out golf packages for Nau Hotel & Resorts-owned golf courses, including Salgados, Morgado and Alamos (available via Golfbreaks and YourGolfTravel) as these offer unlimited golf as part of your stay.
Do You Really Need an All-Inclusive Golf Package?
Whilst there are benefits to booking an all-inclusive golf package, it’s worth asking yourself if you really need it? Nothing in life comes for free, and you can expect to pay upwards of £60 per day to get your food and drink thrown in as part of the deal.
Remember that you’ll be out on the golf course for a large chunk of the day, so will you be eating 3 meals at the hotel? Will you be drinking lots of alcohol during your stay? It’s a known fact that hangovers aren’t conducive to playing good golf!
Check the Cost of Bed & Breakfast to See if It’s Good Value
Make sure you ask if the hotel offers a bed and breakfast rate as well, and be sure to compare the prices. Would you spend more than this on lunch, dinner and a few drinks in the evening?
Also, remember that a few drinks at a clubhouse that’s not part of your all-inclusive package will incur an additional charge. You may be better off opting for bed and breakfast and putting aside the money you’ll save for the trip.
Another benefit of opting for bed and breakfast is that you can experience different restaurants in the local area. Great for adding some variety, especially on more extended stays.
Can You Hire Golf Clubs?
You may be taking your golf clubs with you on your trip. But if you aren’t, check to see if the resort or club you are staying at includes golf club hire.
It’s not usually included, so budget between €25-€60 per round if you’re not taking your clubs.
Our golf course page has a handy filter showing which courses offer club hire but always check directly with the hotel before you travel to double-check and reserve a set.
Check if Buggy Hire is Included
If you want to use golf buggies on holiday, check that they’re included. With some golf courses, you will need to hire a buggy, such is the layout of the course and distance between the tees. If that’s the case the price of a round will reflect this.
If you’re booking with a specialist golf travel agent, they will typically ask if you want buggies during the booking process. They often run promotions that include buggies as part of your stay.
If you’re booking your courses directly, you’ll usually find an option to include buggy hire for an additional fee. Buggies usually cost between €20-€50 per round.
Booking Green Fees Directly Can Be Cheaper Than All Inclusive Deals
Depending on the time of year and when you want to play, booking tee times yourself maybe cheaper than choosing an all inclusive golf package.
Tee-time Booking platforms like Leading Courses and TeeTimes.pt make it easy to purchase rounds of golf yourself and offer discounted rates when times are quieter.
If you’re happy to play golf in the afternoon, look out for twilight prices offered by many Algarve golf courses. These can be as much as 75% cheaper than playing in the morning as long as you tee off after 15:30.
Does Your Trip Include Airport Transfers?
Nothing beats getting off the plane into pre-arranged transport that takes you directly to the hotel. If you’re not hiring a car, airport transfers are a convenient way to shuttle you too and from the hotel and beat the queues for a taxi. It’s often cheaper too.
Specialist golf travel agents can handle airport transfers for you, they’re sometimes included in the price, but make sure you ask. They may even throw it in as a deal sweetener.
If you’re booking accommodation, the following companies offer airport transfers to and from Faro Airport.
Are Flights Included?
If you’re booking an all inclusive golf package to the Algarve with a specialist golf travel agent, flights won’t be included in the price quoted, and you will need to book these yourself. Thankfully it’s easy to compare flight times and prices using Skyscanner.
Conclusion
An all-inclusive golf holiday in the Algarve is a great way to know what you’re paying up front. With all food drink and golf included in the price, there’s less chance of a nasty surprise bill at the end of your trip. Our carefully selected hotels ensure that you’ll be close to excellent golf courses and enjoy great food and drink during your break.
